Sales Manager

Frederick, Maryland

Fugro EarthData is seeking a corporate sales manager to oversee national sales activities with the goal of significantly expanding sales revenues and ensuring that all services are supported with the appropriate mix and volume of profitable work. The manager will contribute intelligence gathered in the marketplace toward the development, coordination, and implementation of a market strategy and sales plan to cultivate specific vertical markets. These markets include, but are not limited to federal, state, and local agencies; electric and gas utilities; and military programs.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and direct activities associated with assessing market values and conditions; investigating market conditions and facilities to determine time, type of sales, and collaboration with marketing to prepare advertising material and select media for release; working with technical services to establish pricing
  • Coordinate sales distribution by establishing sales territories and goals and monitoring individual salespersons progress against goals
  • Review market analyses to determine customer needs, volume potential, and price schedules; develop sales campaigns to accommodate company goals
  • Plan sales objectives to develop sales policies and to coordinate functions
  • Evaluate the market position of competing organizations and their marketing and sales techniques
  • Devise sales strategies and promotions to obtain maximum sales volume
  • Establish effective business contacts with all federal, state, and local government agencies to establish volume potential, price schedules, and delivery schedules
  • Negotiate contracts with clients and request amendments to or extensions of contracts within authorized limits
  • Coordinate activities of international sales and aid sales executives in formulating and administering international sales policies and direct activities of international sales development
  • Conduct annual and bi-annual performance management reviews for the corporate sales staff. Submit reviews, salary adjustment requests, staffing requests, and promotion request to the senior vice president
  • Provide training oversight and act as a resource to the sales staff; transfer knowledge to staff members and identify training needs
  • Work closely with marketing to write proposals and provide input on marketing plans; prepare bids, process specifications, test and progress reports, and other exhibits that may be required

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, remote sensing, or related field of study
  • Minimum 8 years of successful sales management experience
  • Proven experience in leading and managing diverse, simultaneous sales teams in dynamic and fast-paced environments
  • Broad knowledge of mapping and GIS disciplines, standards, and capabilities to solve problems, make effective decisions, and develop opportunities
  • Superior relationship building skills, along with a demonstrated expertise in driving sales/business development efforts with new and existing clients
  • Ability to develop holistic sales strategies that demonstrate business acumen and coordination with strategic plan
  • Ability to travel, up to 50 percent of work time
  • Excellent organizational, coaching, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills to effectively direct and guide staff and sales teams to ensure objectives are aligned
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and Word, as well as standard financial management tools, to make decisions and manage contract negotiations
